Aldi Chocolates, Best Hidden Secret!

Aldi, German discount store

Do you have an Aldi store in your area? If so, you may be surprised to find that they carry a variety of wonderfully delicious, high quality European chocolate! Growing up in Norway, I was spoiled on great chocolate, and for me, the regular ol’ Hershey’s bar will never measure up. It doesn’t melt well, and I find the flavor to be harsh.

And before I go on: No, I do not work for Aldi’s and I do not get paid for advertisement. I simply want to share my find with others.

Aldi is a discount supermarket based in Germany and their stores have a bit of that European feel to them. When an Aldi store opened up close to where we live, I was excited because many of their groceries are sold at lower prices, and for the most part we’ve been happy with the quality of their products. I recently wrote a post on what I like to buy at Aldi, 20 Favorite Aldi Products List, and of course chocolate did make the list! When I first discovered Aldi, I didn’t even realize their chocolates were anything special until I took a closer look and noticed that they are made in Europe, which instantly intrigued me. I decided to purchase a bar to try, and found the quality to be excellent! I really couldn’t believe it; outstanding quality chocolate at lower prices than other comparable brands. It is still more expensive than a regular Hershey’s bar, but flavor-wise there is no comparison. The chocolates from Aldi are smooth, creamy, rich, flavorful, and melt at low temperatures, giving you the feel of eating a high quality product. Some of their chocolates are produced in Germany, and some in Austria or even Belgium. European chocolate is known to be of high quality, and these bars are no exception. It’s the real deal! And found right at Aldi! Wow! I can’t get over that fact!

Aldi chocolate selections, European, amazing chocolates that melt in your mouth! And inexpensive, how can you beat it!

European Aldi chocolates, inexpensive but amazing, and melt in your mouth! High quality, how awesome!

Price wise, the chocolate bars at Aldi range from $1.49 – $1.99. To compare, European bars at World Market range from $2.49 (only one kind) – $2.99 (all other comparable bars). I’ve seen the same or similar bars for approximately the same prices at other stores as well.  I will describe a few of Aldi’s chocolate bars, though they carry several other ones as well.

The two bars on this first picture are made in Austria; milk and dark chocolate. Though I didn’t care too much for the flavor of the dark chocolate of this particular brand, the milk chocolate bar was wonderful! Smooth, creamy, and great flavor. I believe flavor combined with texture and temperature melting point are some of the main factors responsible for how people experience different types of chocolate. The producers of Aldi chocolates seem to have managed to create the blend necessary to achieve a high quality product.

Delicious European Chocolats from Aldi
These next two German bars are both awesome! The Coffee & Cream has white chocolate on top and dark coffee-flavored chocolate on the bottom. It does contain real coffee, and quite noticeably so, though nothing overpowering. People who don’t care for coffee may not care for this chocolate, though if you enjoy both coffee and chocolate, this bar is for you! Not being overly sweet, it’s just a perfect blend in my opinion.

The Creme Filled Mini Chocolate Bars are filled with a white chocolate cream containing a mixture of finely chopped nuts and crispy cereals. The chocolate flavor is quite mild, and being that they are fairly sweet, these bars go very well with a cup of black coffee.

Then there’s the white European chocolate from Aldi. Some people don’t even consider white as chocolate at all, as it does not contain cocoa solids or cocoa liquor. It does, however, contain cocoa butter, which is also a component of cocoa beans. So in my opinion it still qualifies as chocolate. Regardless, either you care for it or you don’t, and this is great-tasting high quality white chocolate for those who do enjoy it.

I found a recipe online a while back that called for melted white chocolate. In the recipe reviews, people were complaining that the white chocolate chips they used wouldn’t melt properly. That problem would have been solved had they purchased Aldi’s white chocolate. It melts exceptionally well, making it my personal top choice for recipes (and eating!). See picture and link on the bottom of this post.

Edited to add: Aldi must have made changes to their white chocolate, as it no longer (as of 2014) melts nicely like it used to. In fact, it is extremely difficult to get it to melt at this point. This means that I will no longer use their white chocolate if I need it for a recipe that requires melting. I will be using Baker’s premium white chocolate baking squares since I have good experience melting this type of chocolate. Ghiradelli also carries white baking chocolate that looks promising for melting. I haven’t tried this brand yet though.

At last, my two top favorites of Aldi chocolates: Moser Roth Toffee Crunch and Chocolate Crisp Bars.

European Aldi chocolates are inexpensive but amazing, and melt in your mouth! High quality, how awesome!
The Crisp Bars may seem similar to KitKats in how they contain chocolate and crisp wafers. However, the chocolate part of Aldi’s Chocolate Crisp Bars is so much better, truly excellent! And again, it melts in your mouth!! Imagine that! Chocolate that melts! Seems like all chocolate should, right? The melting factor, the smoothness and the flavors, like I’ve mentioned already in regards to the other chocolates, is what makes such a big difference in the overall experience of eating it. KitKats are OK, I guess… but not really, not if you can compare to truly great-tasting chocolate. Eating these bars gives a completely different feel and true enjoyment. Mix in the crispness of the wafers and the thin layer of a soft hazelnut cream similar to nougat found on top of the wafers, and you’ve got a product I have a hard time staying away from!

The Moser Roth Toffee Crunch bar, OH MY!!! This chocolate is so unbelievably creamy and delicious, I don’t think I’ve ever tasted anything like it! I think it tastes like something that would be sold only at the finest chocolate boutiques (not that I’ve had the pleasure of sampling such chocolate); it’s truly a gourmet candy as I would imagine it to be. In addition to the very easy melt and extremely creamy and smooth textured chocolate, it has pieces of crunchy toffee mixed into it, giving it a bit of a caramel flavor. The Aldi store by us is usually sold out of this particular variety, so it appears others have come to the same conclusion.

One of Aldi’s chocolates (made exclusively for Aldi) was actually “named ‘product of the year’ by an influential panel of consumers.” Source
Here’s another link, this one to a blogger who tells about her experiences with Aldi, her tour and taste testing/comparison experience; also how they keep their products at such low prices, quality etc.: momadvice

As I’ve already described, Aldi’s high quality European chocolates melt very well, making them suitable for recipes requiring melted chocolate. I recently made the marzipan candies on the next picture, using dark, white, and milk chocolate from Aldi, melting a few seconds at a time in the microwave oven while stirring often. Edit: See comment above regarding melting white chocolate.

Wow, I’ll have to keep these chocolates in mind. I’m a bit of a “chocolate snob,” not liking Hershey chocolates either. There’s a definite difference in the taste and texture of quality chocolate. Thanks for the tip!

    • I grew up traveling and got spoiled eating the worlds best chocolates from Belgium and Germany, so I was shocked the first time I tried chocolate from Aldi and found it to be among the best I’ve tasted. Silky and creamy, this chocolate just melts in your mouth. I recently tried the Signature chocolate for white wine pairing and it’s absolutely amazing. It’s so addictive it should come with a warning.

  2. Anne says:

Alas, we have no Aldi. But when we visit my inlaws, we always go–for the chocolate. 🙂 Have you tried the Schogetten brand? The cappuccino bar is wonderful! I’m going to put the Roth toffee bar on my list for the next time we’re somewhere with an Aldi.

  3. Vera says:

Aldi is my kind of store, I agree with you they have a great selection of chocolates. During the holidays Aldi sells Merci Finest Selection, by far this are my favorite.

  4. Linda Herriman says:

It is nice to know Aldi has such great chocolate! I never really thought to try Aldi for quality chocolate. It seems they have a good variety too! Thanks.

  5. vic says:

I’m a big fan of the white, all i have to say is that this is one of the finest white chocolate bars i have ever tasted, i shop at aldi because of the europen flavour, the food is amazing …

  6. Allison says:

I need to check out Aldi for chocolate, I guess! Thanks for the tips. I never knew Aldi carried such high quality chocolate. I love your in-depth analysis of each one. Great job Terese.

    • Terese says:

Thank you Allison! Yes, when it comes to chocolate, details are important! LOL! During holidays they will often carry holiday candies as well.

  7. Georgie says:

I adore the their white chocolate. However, it is never in stock when I go to buy it. It seems everyone else loves it too. My second choice is the fruit and nut which is just like Cadbury’s (I am originally a Cadbury lover as I grew up in the UK)

I really do like Aldi chocolate. Thank you for your indepth review.

  8. tim says:

I’m lucky enough to have an Aldi’s 2 miles from where I live. These chocolate bars and the German Schogetten chocolate pieces they sell in a little box are amazing. The Choceur bars shown above are very high quality, rich and creamy chocolate, most defintely typical European quality which blows away any other chocolate I’ve had. These bars are better than any Ghiradelli or Godiva chocolates I’ve had. This is no cheap waxy tasting chocolate for sure. Aldi’s in general is a great place to shop, most of their products are very good.
Not affiliated with Aldi’s either, just a happy customer. You can get an entire cartload of groceries at Aldi’s for $100 bucks including milk, prepackaged lunch meats, bread, etc. etc. EXCELLENT place to shop and like I said product quality is usually quite good.

    • Terese says:

I agree, I’ve been happy with a lot of their products. I especially focus on their produce, as I have found it to be inexpensive and of high quality at our store. That can be different from one area to the next, but the store by me has been great. And the chocolate is wonderful, obviously!! Thanks for commenting!

  9. bhigh says:

Aldi chocolates are indeed delicious. We love the Wafernussen, which are like KitKat bars but with hazelnut filling.

  10. Eve mason says:

I’ve been desperately searching for the coffee chocolate bar, my grandfather used to bring it back from Germany when I was young and I had been able to buy it in aldi apart from now they don’t stock it. I’ve been searching online or somewhere that will ship but unfortunately I’ve had no such luck 🙁 does anyone know anywhere in London you can buy this?

    • Terese says:

Sorry to hear that. I live in the US, so I don’t know. But it definitely is not unusual at my store that they run out of things for a while, then suddenly it’s back again. Seems to be the more popular items. Hope you find it again!!

  11. Sam says:

I can honestly say living in the candy capital of America….I heard a rumor that the Aldi store had great chocolates…being a chocolate “snob” I wanted to prove my friend wrong…PEOPLE MY FEAR IS THAT OTHERS WILL FIND OUT THEY HAVE BETTER CHOCOLATE THAN I CAN DESCRIBE. I’VE FINE THERE EVER SINCE JUST FOR THEIR SWEETS AND DISCOVERED SO MANY OTHER HIGH QUALITY ITEMS…I KNOW I SOUND LIKE AN ALDI SALESMEN BUT PRAY THEY DON’T CHANGE PRICES OUR QUALITY! America LOVES ALDI…THANKS GUYS

  12. KATLUI says:

Thank you for this blog and sharing, now with that said how are the rest of us supposed to share such decadent chocolate secret with so many others? I’m keeping it to myself and I will take the hit of enjoying these chocolates, for the safety of others YUMMY 🙂

  13. Betsy Milford says:

Hello, I hope you don’t mind me asking here but I am trying to find the name of a chocolate that Aldi used to carry and was wondering if you (or anyone reading this) remembers them and knows the name. I believe they had three layers. A graham cracker or cookie type thing with some sort of creme or white chocolate filling all covered in milk chocolate. I wish to god I’d been prudent enough to save a wrapper or something. Each bar was individually wrapped and a package held maybe 6. They were similar size to the Moser Roth ones pictured above. This was maybe 2 or 3 years ago. Any help would be appreciated!

  14. Snerple says:

I couldn’t agree with you more.

  15. elizabeth says:

I enjoyed your article almost as much as I just enjoyed some Aldi chocolate. I am small in stature, but huge on dark chocolate consumption. My husband tells people that I am a dark chocolate expert & a chocolate snob. I do have to admit that I am extremely picky about the chocolate that I consume. The way that I see it is if I’m going to consume that many calories I’d better enjoy every morsel of it! I have been known to throw away chocolate from time to time because it wasn’t worth the calories. I became aware of Adli chocolate (and a few other fabulous items made in other countries) a few years ago. Up until last week I have been so grateful to Aldi for providing me with such great chocolate,. There was one chocolate that you missed in your article. I happen to believe that it is the best of all of Aldi’s dark chocolate offerings-though I can’t speak to the other varieties. It is “Schogetten” 3.5 oz. The box contains 18 pieces of chocolate of which you can have 7 for only 207 calories, but you also get 6g fiber, and 4g. protein… that was up until last week. Last week upon grabbing my weekly rations I noticed that the box was different. Thinking nothing of it I grabbed 4 boxes. That night when I got home I decided to check it out. I am so upset. I will probably write to Aldi to complain- not that it will do anything, but it will make me feel better knowing that they now know that they couldn’t get this little switch by everyone. I noticed right away that it taste wasn’t the same. It was less rich and less creamy and more like cheap chocolate. I looked at the ingredients only to find that they changed a lot. It went from having a few ingredients to many. Urgh I am so mad. Not only did the ingredients change but they cut the protein & fiber in HALF! They cheapened the product to keep the price the same I imagine. I would have gladly paid more to keep the same product. Shame on Schogetten for agreeing to cheapen their reputation. I don’t mind the first brand that you mentioned, but it isn’t nearly as good. I don’t like any of the other chocolates that you mentioned. I warned you that I was picky. I am heart broken and my husband is ready to increase my chocolate budget once again. I doubt that I will shop at Aldi weekly as I have done for years. Thanks for letting me vent. You article reminded me about the first brand that you mentioned. This will hold me until I get back into the groove of expensive European chocolate again.

    • Terese says:

Being picky can be a good thing! 🙂 I too can be picky when it comes to desserts / candies. If I’m going to eat it, I want to really enjoy it. 🙂 That’s really too bad that they would lower their standards like that! I have seen the brand Schogetten there, but have not tried it. Sounds like it was awesome the way that it was. 🙁 I think you should write to them to let them know how you feel, I think many companies value feedback, as their main goal is sales. I do like the dark chocolate from Moser Roth, they go as dark as 72% and even 85%, if I remember correctly. There are few ingredients and not much sugar, but it gives me the kick that I need when I crave it but don’t want all the sugar. Thank you for commenting!

    • Marilym says:

I Agree with you. Schogetten was a great find. I’m eating healthy and this chocolate was a treat that fit in my diet. Now instead of 65 percent cocoa solids it’s 50 percent. That’s way too much sugar for me so I’m out and I’m grieving the loss. I will look elsewhere for a new brand.

  16. Mary says:

Is there any way to buy the milk and dark chocolate bars online? I can’t find a site and we don’t have Aldi stores out here, but the chocolate with a fleur would be perfect for an Eagle Scout celebration.

  17. Allie says:

The Aldi’s Choceur Hazelnut Chocolate Bar is….HEAVEN. It just melts in your mouth. I can’t stand to even look at a Hershey Bar after eating this wonderful piece of Chocolate. Aldi’s Chocolates are DELICIOUS!!!!

  18. Elizabeth says:

The best can’t find any better.

  19. Janette Smith says:

  20. Pat E. says:

Does Aldi’s sell any Fair Trade chocolates?

  21. Sensory Scientist says:

I’m a trained sensory person. I do a teaching and tasting on chocolate.
The Aldi’s bars all score well above the other US products.
They got the same scores as products costing 3 to 5 times as much as the Aldi’s bars

  22. Pam Aquadro says:

The creamy milk chocolate bar is perfect for melting!!! I use it for my english toffee bars. When the toffee is hot right off the stove, I lay these bars on top and you almost do not even have to spread it, it is that creamy!

  23. Angela says:

Thank you so much for the gorgeous chocolate pictures. I am tormenting myself with looking at them before I realized I should just go to Aldi to pick up some Moser Roth and Choceur. Great post!

    • Terese says:

Thank you! As this post was written quite a while ago, some of these bars have a different logo at this point, and others may not even be sold anymore. But regardless, there is still plenty of goodness to choose from at Aldi’s chocolate isle.

  24. Ralph says:

Hi , just ate a chocuer bar from Aldi delicious one of the best I’ve had . Now if you want to try a good Hershey Chocolate you have to try their high end chocolate called Symphony , I think they 3 types they are pretty good . The regular bar is pretty bad!

    • Terese says:

Yes, the symphony bars are very good! Especially the blue one with toffee bits and nuts! It’s simply delicious! Thanks for your comment!

  25. Diane says:

My husband and I recently discovered the Moser Roth Premium Milk Chocolate bars. Oh. my. goodness. I had no idea that a “plain” milk chocolate bar could taste like this. It is smooth, creamy, and indescribably delicious — like no American milk chocolate I have ever had before. From now on whenever I want a little piece of heaven, I’ll know what to reach for! Now my ethical dilemma is: should I tell all my Facebook friends so that they, too, can find “chocolate ecstasy”, or should I keep this secret to myself? My evil twin keeps whispering, “Shut up, you fool!” Can’t wait to try the other chocolates recommended here — thanks for all the recommendations!

    • Terese says:

Oh, I know! How funny! You never know, all of a sudden all the chocolate is gone because everyone figured out who’s got the best chocolate in town! But then again, maybe that’s what will keep Aldi in business and ensure a treat that will keep on coming. 😀 Thanks for your fun comment, and Happy Shopping!

  26. Andy Naylor says:

    Hello,

I just thought I would tell you about a lovely box of chocolates, made in a lovely town, that my girlfriend bought me from Aldi for Christmas. The box was called Marzipan Hearts and came under the Choceur range. I was not a big fan of marzipan much at all, that was until 2 years ago when me and my girlfriend took our car from England on the ferry for a 2 week holiday staying in places in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. We stayed in Hamburg for a few days and one day we caught a train up to the Baltic towns of Lubeck and Wismar. Lubeck is famous for marzipan and still makes and sells it in the town. The range of marzipan products in the shop/showroom we entered near the river (which has a cafe upstairs) was just brilliant! There is another important marzipan factory shop which we didn’t see in the time we had, it’s Niederegger, a famous maker which is sold all over England. I discovered on our visit to Lubeck that it’s Marzipan is ‘Protected Geographical Indication’ under EU laws. So I knew when I was given my pressie that the little blue and yellow mark informing me of this fact will be on my box! This might sound wired but I was so excited about this, bit like I am when I have a Melton pie or a slice of Stilton! Anyway the box contained 16 foil rapped dark chocolate Lubecker hearts. The quality was good, the ingredients telling me that my hearts contained 76% marzipan and that the marzipan contained, (after sugar) 49% ground almonds. I really enjoyed these choc’s, It rekindled memories of our adventures in Lubeck while I ate them, the lovely old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with amazing brick Gothic buildings galore, so is the nearby old port town of Wismar, with it’s old town also having the coverted UNESCO status for it’s unique brick Gothic buildings too. Sorry back to the choc’s! Super great value box of chocolate marzipan’s.

    • Terese says:

Sounds like you had a fantastic trip, how charming and fun it must have been! I love chocolate and marzipan, but I also love the country side and visiting villages when traveling. I’ve been to Hamburg, but not to the other areas you described, although traveling by train in Norway has always been a favorite of mine. I grew up in Norway. Thanks for taking the time to share your story, I really enjoyed reading it!

  27. Shabbi says:

I am going to Norway in a few days. Can you please give me the addresses of Aldi stores at Norway. It will be a great help. My destination will basically be Oslo. Thanks in advance. From Bagladesh.

    • Terese says:

I’m sorry, I don’t currently live in Norway, and I don’t know if they have any Aldi stores there. I think Aldi is a German based store. I live in USA.

      • Angela says:

I used to be hooked (I’m talking a block a week here) on Aldi chocolates the Moser Roth (70-85% kinds here) but after having a bit of the lindt chocolates of the same percentage you can really tell there’s a difference…
Has anyone else noticed the grittiness in some parts of the Moser Roth bars? I’m not sure what it is and I’ve been trying to find out what’s causing the difference! So far no luck though 🙁
I’ve just bought a pack of 70% Fair trade from Aldi as well! I think I’m in love! I haven’t found the grittiness of the Moser Roth in it yet but I find the flavours a bit more robust which I like very much!

        • Terese says:

Hmmm… Interesting! Have you found it to be specific flavors that are gritty, or just hit and miss? I usually only buy the toffee bars from Moster Roth, and those have been wonderful. I don’t buy a ton of them though. I find the milk chocolate Symphony bars by Hershey to be gritty, while the toffee Symphony bars and smooth and wonderful. Strange! I’ll be curious to hear what others have found.

  28. alan streak says:

Why is there no creamy dark chocolate available in Aldi Hazel Grove anymore

  29. Erika says:

Aldi has the best and lowest priced chocolates outside of Europe.

  30. Suzanne Smith says:

If they’re made in Europe, the ingredients probably won’t be genetically modified, as the European Union says manufacturers there have to label if food contains that, so many don’t use genetically modified ingredients.

    • Terese says:

That’s great! Hopefully they do make it to their own standards. I’m wondering though, is it possible that they don’t have to follow the same rules if it’s packaged for another country? They obviously package products to the US with American labeling standards, so does that mean they can use ingredients that are banned there but legal here? I know European countries have banned a lot of ingredients that we allow here in the US; pretty sad that we won’t ban those ingredients as well. But I hope you’re right!!!

  31. shirley says:

i know i am late to this site, but u are so right aldi’s chocolates are the best. funny, i never even noticed their sweets cuz when i walk in the door, i alway just looked straight ahead to the veggies. my bro recenty got married to a chocoholic, and she turned me on to their great chocolates. terrified that i will go overboarded, since i gave them up for lent. -)

  32. shirley says:

i ive in md, but u guys need to try the berger cookies. thick hunks of chocolate icing on top of old fashion vanilla wafer. the kind of wafer made in the old days not like nabiscos. anyway, they have a wonderful chocolate cake too. u can go to their website and order their cookies./cakes i don’t work for berger, but wish i did. then again, i would never get a payck cuz i would have to pay for all of the cookies and cake that i ate. hope u try them

  33. Joyce says:

I love in an aria where I Can reach three Aldi stores none of them have Choceur white chocolate. Are they not making it any longer? It’s my favorite.

    • Terese says:

I don’t know if they do, but I have found that some of their products will disappear for a while and then come back. Some are strictly seasonal, but I’m not sure why the other products come and go. I found that there were some changes made to the white chocolate that made it difficult or impossible to melt, so I’m not sure if it just didn’t sell well anymore. I used it for melting for baking, so that was a disappointment to me.

  34. Debbie says:

We just had the luxury of trying our first Choceur chocolate bar … Rich Dark … YUMMO. Can’t wait to find an Aldo near us so we can try out some others.

I don’t know if you’ve gotten around to trying the Ghiradelli white chocolate for baking but I purchase the large 2 lb. package from Sam’s Club for holiday baking … I use it to make my white chocolate bark with red and green pieces. It melts really well in the double boiler.

    • Terese says:

Thank you for the tip on Ghiradelli white chocolate for baking! I do have a Sam’s Club card, so I’ll try that! I’ve been using Baker’s brand baking chocolate, but I’ll try Ghiradelli as well. I appreciate the tip! Only wish Aldi would go back to how they used to make their white chocolate, since it was yummy and melted so well.

  35. Casper W says:

Aldi stores in Victoria (Australia) once stocked a brand of Chocolate (Brand name forgotten) which was labelled “Made in New Zealand”. Their Hazelnut Milk Chocolate was the best in the world. At least 10 times as good as any other brand. My previous favourite was Cadbury Dairy Milk made in Australia. I’m sure they must have changed the way they make it now as the latest blocks are nowhere near as good in my opinion. Does anyone remember the name of the New Zealand Brand of Hazelnut Chocolate? It came in around 150 gm blocks with a mostly solid green label.

  36. ronn says:

some of the Aldi chocolate is good, but much of it is inferior to what Europeans would eat.
I spent a good bit of time in Germany and surrounding countries, and the chocolate was superior to what we are offered here.
My opinion is that most Americans dont have a palate.

    • Terese says:

Well, although I agree that European chocolate is superior for the most part, I will have to disagree with you on Americans lacking a palate. Food choices are different and people learn to enjoy what is offered to them. In fact, as far as I understand, Europeans often gain a lot of weight when they first move to the US. There are several causes, I’m sure, but I’m also sure that they enjoy the food they’re offered and therefore overeat. Food wouldn’t be so tasty if Americans didn’t have a palate. But of course, that is also just my opinion, just like you are entitled to yours. Thank you for your comment, and have a great upcoming week!

  37. Terri says:

Thanks to a coworker, I have just had the Choceur Hazelnut Crunch.
It was delicious!! Very smooth, not too sweet and I don’t how she knew but I love
crunch in my chocolate and in my ice cream. So the Hazlelnut Crunch was a big
slam dunk for me! I will have to get another for those occasional times I want to
    indulge. 🙂

  38. Allie says:

I love…love….love Aldi’s Chocolates. The milk chocolate with almonds is soooo good and one of my favorites. I live 3 minutes from an Aldi’s so I NEVER run out!! Weight-wise…this may not be a good thing for me. ??

  39. Francesca says:

    Terese.. Wonderful post!
For you to achieve your ‘Dream’ to be a stay at home mom! Youre very lucky and so is your family too!

I didn’t know they had an Auldi in the states. That’s really
    Fantastic!

I have a friend who visits Belgium once or twice a year and buys all the chocolates for State side friends. They are amazingly, and you can buy assortments of large bags that are fantastic. They would be triple the price here in the states I believe.

I’m going to check out your chic recipe! Thanks.

    • Terese says:

Yes, and I am so blessed to have a wonderful family to care for!

I understand completely about stocking up on chocolate while in Belgium. While I’ve never been there, I know they have fantastic chocolates, and some imported via Aldi. But Norway is another country with amazing chocolate, so every time I go to visit family there, I stock up on Norsk Melkesjokolade (Norwegian Milk Chocolate), which is the best in the world in my opinion (not that I’ve tasted every country’s chocolate, of course!). But it is amazing!

  40. 40 Winks says:

I am fortunate to live in a city with many Aldi locations. Their chocolate is so much better than most American chocolate. I’m also a huge fan of the products they carry from the Winternacht brand out of Germany. They carry a soft gingerbread cookie coated on chocolate that is heavenly. They also have a soft gingerbread heart coated in dark or milk chocolate with apricot filling and it is AMAZING! Their spiced cookies are also delicious.

  41. Robin says:

I started shopping at Aldi last year when my daughter was diagnosed with Celiac and needed to eat a very strict gluten free diet. Aldi has a lot of gluten free items and the chocolate bars are no exception. Not all of them are gluten free but several are. Unfortunately the Moser Roth bars are not gluten free. My daughter is now in college and we had not tried Aldi chocolate before she left so I surprised her with a care package containing a Choceur coffee and cream and a milk creme. She was thrilled. Lindt and Giardelli chocolates are not gluten free and now I am kind of glad that they are not because Aldi is cheaper and better. We probably would not have tried Aldi chocolates if the other brands were gluten free. I pick her up next week after finals and I can’t wait to bring a white chocolate bar along for the ride. She is going to love it. I am going to continue experimenting with Aldi chocolate bars.

What a sweet, caring mom you are! Your daughter is blessed! I did not know that the Lindt and Giardelli had gluten in them, but now you found an awesome alternative! Good for you!

Funny. In Germany Choceur is just a random “entry-level” chocolate.
(It is actually ALDI’s own brand)
    Nevertheless, its good 🙂

    • Terese says:

Haha! Well, since it’s better than other cheap chocolates in the US, it’s at least a step up. I’ve tasted chocolates in Norway, and also a Swiss brand, that is absolutely amazing and beats Choceur by far. I’m sure Germany does have many brands superior to Choceur.

ALDI chocolate lives up to high quality European ones. Can’t beat the price.

The grocery price is high though can’t consider it as a discount store.

    • Terese says:

I’m actually very impressed with their grocery prices. It depends a bit what you’re purchasing too, but I think their prices are very low overall.
